Anthony Vacarello’s power, black runway payed tribute to the late Yves Saint Laurent. Tailoring was strong and masculine with handmade 80’s padded shoulders Saint Laurent’s signature double breasted suits for women. 

When Yves created the first collections for his brand, he experimented with unfeminine shapes and menswear business attire for women. It was an absolute outrage and many women were banned from restaurants and society events when sporting his suits. Needless to say, he acquired a cult following of formidable Parisian women who praised his designs and created the legacy we remember him for today. 

Vacarello’s Fall 2019 collection honored a carefully curated selection of historical moments in Saint Laurent’s past. Inspired by 1980’s muses, Betty Catroux and Bianca Jaggers’ “sophisticated, liberated spirit(s),” he created striking pieces with sharp cuts, transparent metallic silks, sensual accents of sheer. Dramatic neck lines, dazzling studded lapels and even a black ballet tutu paired with a striped sweater blouse glittered down the runway. All of a sudden, the stage lights dropped and models strutted out in glowing neon prints luminous under ultraviolet lenses. It was a spectacular finale to show glow in the dark party pieces under florescent black lights — definitely one for the books!
