Chapter 4
The next few weeks were spent getting to know each other and exploring the east side of Amsterdam. Our meetups revolved around coffee dates at Polder or Maslows, where we passionately debated the intricacies of Aristotle and Schopenhauer. We filled breaks between classes with walks around campus and drinks at nearby bars.
On the night before my first trip to London, he messaged for an unplanned evening out. I had to leave for my 6 am flight at 3, but decided that a night out with my new English friend would be more exciting (and beneficial to my trip) than sleep. We went to a local spot and shared many rosés and beers until I had to leave for my flight. I questioned him about the best local things to do in London, English foods I should try, and places that I must visit over a weekend trip. He quizzed me on my political ideologies and thoughts on the previous election. At 11:08 pm, we shared our first kiss at a little table covered in Heineken paper coasters in the corner of the bar terrace. A man selling roses off the street caught this moment and seized the opportunity to try and sell us a stem, making both of us blush. We couldn't keep our eyes off each other the entire evening.
As my flight drew near, I made a mental note to try the English bacon and embrace the adventures from his London bucket list during my trip. The city held promises of new stories as I anticipated sharing them upon my return.
