 “What does it mean to feel simultaneously paralyzed and galvanized?” — Catherine Holstein

Creative director, Catherine Holstein showcased a darker, moodier collection in a curated photoshoot and look book. These were sent to over 100 editors and buyers in the fashion industry, along with swatches of fabric from the upcoming collection. 

When designing this collection, she reflected on her years of going to college in New York City in the early 2000’s. There was the feeling of desperation for survival amongst the murder, financial crises, and grit of the city. She thought about the parallels between then and what’s going on in 2020 and how that reflected in fashion. People didn’t want to wear colorful, romantic dresses in New York then, and now, “I think women are going to want to look strong.” 

The collection was chalk full of classic, investment pieces. Lots of sustainably sourced wool and cashmere knits and dresses were paired with pointed-toe ballerina slippers, lace up sandals, and patent leather boots. Earth toned colored dresses with puffed sleeves looked sleek and sexy with opaque tights revealed through a slit on the leg. Their beloved Moto jacket, a season staple, was styled with a silky white dress. The clothes seemed to closely reflect the times we’re living in and what people will want to wear this season.
